A beloved figure in New Orleans music, Rivers enjoyed a career spanning more than seven decades. He also performed on the soundtracks of several Clint Eastwood films, including Tightrope and The Bridges of Madison County. Rivers was a fixture at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, performing there for decades, and his own James Rivers Movement became an important part of his musical legacy. His longtime band included pianist Peter Cho, who continues to carry forward the music and spirit of their collaboration.
